Traditional Sealing Wax

You use a wax seal to seal a document (e.g. a letter). The wax seal guarantees authenticity. It also underlines the craftsmanship and exclusivity of, for example, special foods.

How do you make a wax seal?

Once you have folded the document to be sealed, hold the bar of sealing wax in a candle. The melting varnish drips on to the edge of the document. When you have melted enough wax, press the engraving into the still soft wax. The engraving can be a wax stamp or a signet ring. The recipient sees the unbroken stamp and knows that the package has arrived undamaged, or recognizes the motif of the sender.

Seal wax is increasingly being used to embellish a wrapped gift or to give special or homemade foods and drinks an exclusive look.
